Layers

Layers are the building blocks of totems on Mytho—they’re the content that makes each totem unique and valuable. Anyone in the community can add them, and they turn a totem into a living, growing digital asset. Here’s everything you need to know about layers, based on how they work.

  • What Are Layers? Layers are posts on a totem’s page—like updates on a social media feed. They can be anything: text, images, videos, audio, animations, or links. For example, if your totem is about a music subculture, a layer could be a song clip, a band photo, or a short story. They show up in the platform’s interface as posts with visuals and content, making the totem richer.

  • Who Can Add Layers? Both the totem creator and any community member holding the totem can add layers. Unlike regular social networks where only admins post, Mytho lets everyone contribute.

  • Public and Private Layers:

    • Public Layers: Visible to everyone, even non-holders, to attract attention.

    • Private Layers: Only totem owners can see them—great for exclusive content like special updates or rewards.

  • How to Create a Layer:

    • Step 1: Log into Mytho and go to your totem’s page. You need at least $5 worth of totems (or 250,000 totems) to post.

    • Step 2: Upload your content—say, a meme or a video—through the platform’s interface.

    • Step 3: Submit it for approval.

    • Result: Your layer becomes a unique NFT (a one-of-a-kind digital item) that people can view, support, or buy.

  • Technical Foundation: Each layer is an ERC-721 token—a type of NFT. This means it’s a distinct asset with clear ownership, stored securely on the blockchain. You own it, and it can’t be duplicated.

  • Shard Tokens: Layers come with a bonus called Shard Tokens, which reward interaction:

    • Earning Them:

      • Creators: You get Shard Tokens when you publish a layer.

      • Supporters: You earn them by “boosting” a layer—locking some of your totem tokens to promote it inside the platform.

    • Using Them: Swap Shard for perks like badges (to show off your status), extra staking power for MYTHO, or other platform benefits.

    • Minting and Burning: They’re created when you make or boost a layer and destroyed when you use them, keeping the system balanced.

  • Benefits of Layers:

    • For Totems: Each approved layer earns Merit points for the totem, which turn into MYTHO for the treasury. Boosted layers also make the totem more visible on Mytho.

    • For You: Adding a layer gets you Shard Tokens, and as an NFT, you can sell it or earn royalties if it’s resold later. Authors of layers can also receive donations from users who appreciate their work.
